Create your own textured porcelain earrings in this hands-on, two-Saturday workshop with ceramic artist and designer Christine Herron of Red Chair Studio. Christine will guide participants through designing, shaping, and adding surface texture to porcelain while sharing techniques developed through years of creating her signature porcelain jewelry line. The first session (October 31) will focus on construction, while the second session (November 7) will cover glazing, finishing techniques, and a demonstration on assembling the earring components. Perfect for beginners and experienced makers alike, participants will leave with beautiful handmade earrings and the skills to continue creating on their own.

Ceramic Transfers Workshop

Newport Art Museum School

Location:  the Museum School @ 26 Liberty Street. Please park in our museum parking lots or on Liberty Street.

In this two-day workshop, students will explore the process of creating THEIR OWN UNIQUE ceramic transfers using underglaze AND COLORED slip then applying them to A LARGE SLAB OF CLAY TO MAKE A SET OF SQUARE DISHES.

I will TALK ABOUT THE MATERIALS I USE, DEMONSTRATE HOW I DRAW AND PAINT ON NEWSPRINT AND GUIDE STUDENTS THROUGH THE PROCESS OF MAKING THEIR OWN TRANSFERS. Students will then apply THEIR TRANSFERS to slabs OF CLAY AND cREAte a set of square dishes.

All skill levels welcome.

Creating Embossing Tools

During this demo, I will show students how to create texture plates LIKE THE ONES I USE IN MY OWN WORK. MAKING YOUR OWN TOOLS IS A GREAT WAY OF MAKING YOUR WORK YOUR OWN, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

Students will be provided with a list of materials and an outline of her process for reference following the demo.
